Every year in Spain, between 21.5 and 26 kg of textiles are consumed per inhabitant, 30% of which corresponds to household textile products. Of the total amount, only 11% is collected and only 1% is recycled and converted into new products.
Long Life Textiles is a project promoted by the Design & Creativity Cluster in response to the low recyclability of the sector, and its main objective is to contribute to reducing the environmental and social impact of the sector throughout its life cycle while also responding to a series of opportunities arising from market trends, such as the revaluation of second-hand products, and future regulation.
It is therefore an industrial research project for the design, development and prototyping of a model to extend the useful life of home textile products, specifically carpets, thanks to the use of disruptive Industry 4.0 and IoT technologies.
The project is carried out around the ecosystem of nanimarquina, a participating brand in the project dedicated to the design, edition and distribution of carpets and textile articles, and its key axis is the modelling of traceability and transparency, applied to the entire life cycle of the carpets, which facilitates their maintenance, recovery and recycling, and gives value to the materials and techniques used in their production.
Long Life Textiles is led by Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation and co-driven by MODACC, Inèdit, Nutcreatives, nanimarquina and Retexcycle. The total cost of the project is 261,886 €, of which the State and the European Union will contribute 209,509 €, an amount that will benefit the companies and entities participating in the project.
This project has the support and funding of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, within the programme of Support for AEIs to contribute to improving the competitiveness of Spanish industry, as well as the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation and its members can participate in this project thanks to the fact that BCD Foundation has been recognised as an Innovative Business Group by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
