According to the WHO, 93% of children under 15 years of age globally are exposed to levels of pollutants well above the recommended limits. The quality of the indoor environment in the school environment is key to the proper development of students' cognitive abilities, and also affects their health and that of teachers and other staff.

Vivarium was created as a research project to analyse the impact and effects of the quality of the indoor environment in educational spaces. It is a didactic proposal to raise awareness, through the active participation of schools, which seeks to generate a positive impact on indoor air quality, enhancing the health, well-being and academic performance of students and school staff.

It is also a digitised system based on continuous and intensive monitoring of the indoor environment through the Internet of Things (IoT), supported by the management and analysis of data through Big Data, capable of offering suggestions for improvement regarding ventilation patterns and use of materials, to improve the health of the occupants of these spaces with the least possible environmental impact.

Vivarium is led by KID'S CLUSTER and co-driven by Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation, Anthesis Lavola, Descoberta, Domestic Data Streamers, Elisava and D'EP Institut. The total cost of the project is 314,655 €, of which the State and the European Union will contribute 243,029 €, an amount that will benefit the companies and entities participating in the project.

The project has the support and funding of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, within the programme of Support for AEIs to help improve the competitiveness of Spanish industry, as well as the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation and its members can participate in this project thanks to the fact that BCD Foundation has been recognised as an Innovative Business Group by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
